Wayne Farms Celebrates Independence Day by Feeding Traveling Troops

OAKWOOD, Ga. (July 7, 2008) – To help celebrate a day marking the freedom and independence of the United States of America, several Wayne Farms employees and their family members were on hand at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport to honor members of America’s armed forces. With the support of their company, and in partnership with the USO and Operation Chefs Unite, volunteers showed up on their day off to feed an estimated 400 traveling soldiers.

“Spending our day off feeding the American troops is just a small way we can express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for their continued efforts on our behalf,” said Caroline Morris, Executive Research Chef and Project Leader for Wayne Farms LLC. These men and women leave their loved ones and risk their lives to fight for our everyday freedoms. We at Wayne Farms want to ensure those sacrifices do not go unnoticed.”

Troops present at the USO were very appreciative of the hot food, USO goody bags and the care showed by all volunteers on this important day. The buffet prepared for the soldiers by Wayne Farms included the company’s signature BUFFALOOS® (spicy chicken wings), chicken roulades, squash casserole, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn bread and apple cobbler.

This marks the third occasion Wayne Farms was able to join forces with the USO and Operation Chefs Unite to show appreciation to the troops. Groups of volunteers from the company also fed soldiers on Labor Day, 2007 and MLK Jr. Day, 2008.
