Decatur, AL (June 22, 2009) - Volunteers from our Decatur Fresh team recently partnered with the Junior Achievement of North Alabama to help teach local youth the basics of financial literacy in today’s economy. The curriculum included techniques for saving money, earning money, helping families save and the importance of community involvement.

Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. The goal of the organization is to prepare young people for the “real world” by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.

In partnership with the group, Wayne Farms’ volunteers taught 8 classes from kindergarten through 2nd grade using curriculum created by the Junior Achievement organization. “Junior Achievement’s programs are a great way to ensure the next generation is prepared to enter the workforce,” said Kerry Fohner, Wayne Farms Customer Service Manager. “We are proud to partner with this organization to enrich the lives of students in our community and help prepare them for the responsibility of proper financial management.”
