|WAYNE FARMS RAISES $6K+ TO BENEFIT THE HOPE CENTER|
Douglas, Ga. (July 27, 2009) – On the eve of the plant’s closure, the Wayne Farms Douglas, Ga. further processing facility made one last good will donation to a community that has long been so welcoming to the company. On Saturday, July 11th, the plant held an employee-only yard sale, raising over $6K to benefit the Hope Center, a local organization charged with providing free meals and services to the less fortunate.
In May, Wayne Farms LLC announced the plans to phase out its Douglas, Ga. facility by the end of July 2009 due to the end of a long-standing and highly-specialized customer contract and as a necessary next step in the company’s ongoing efforts to increase operating efficiencies. The recent sale of miscellaneous items helped the plant to clean out the facility, while offering employees goods at reasonable prices and providing much needed funds to a worthy charity.
Matt Mitchell, Operations Manager for the Wayne Farms Douglas plant says: “During a difficult economy, the individuals in the most need often get the least. We are glad we could raise enough money to provide necessary food and services to our community’s families in need. We hope to be an example for others that even in the most difficult of times, we can still muster some help for those less fortunate. The employees at Wayne Farms have always risen to the challenge of giving to those in need. I am extremely proud of this last effort from the Wayne Farms Douglas team.”
