|Wayne Farms LLC Raises $11,000 for American Heart Association|
DECATUR, Ala. (December 10, 2007) – Wayne Farms LLC’s Decatur facility has wrapped up another year of fundraising for the American Heart Association (AHA) by sponsoring and hosting their annual September golf tournament at Canebrake Golf Club in Athens, Ala. This year’s tournament raised more than $10,000—bringing Wayne Farms’ 2007 total to $11,000.
“Our employees have been raising money for the AHA for a decade,” said Eric George, Wayne Farms quality assurance manager. “We continue to support this organization’s important research and education because heart disease and stroke affects so many of us.”
Golfers from Dukes Construction, International Paper and Wayne Farms Decatur placed first, second and third, respectively, and were able to choose from a variety of donated prizes including new golf clubs and golf bags.
In addition to the golf tournament, the Decatur facility also provided and prepared food for the 2007 Heart Walk and raised money by auctioning off a football autographed by University of Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban and collecting and recycling aluminum cans.
The Decatur facility plans to increase their contribution goal for next year to $12,000, including donating the proceeds from a planned employee raffle of a diamond necklace donated by Jimmy Smith Jewelers.
The Decatur division of Wayne Farms consists of a 72,000 square-foot fresh processing facility, an 180,000 square-foot further processing facility and a 130,000 square-foot further processing facility. The individual plants have been owned and operated by Wayne Farms since 1976, 1998 and 2006, respectively. The Decatur division employs around 1200 people from the surrounding community.
