UNION SPRINGS, Ala. (February 15, 2011) – Wayne Farms LLC’s Union Springs facility recently celebrated a milestone in safety and production by operating six million man-hours without a lost-time accident.
“No lost time” means that no employee has missed work due to an injury suffered on the job. The company celebrated this accomplishment by treating all employees to a steak lunch and offering each individual a MP4 player as a thank you gift.
In addition to traditional safety practices, Wayne Farms has implemented a behavior-based safety initiative called WorkSAFE, which focuses on helping employees identify unsafe behaviors and remain conscious of their environment and potentially dangerous situations. The Wayne Farms Union Springs facility also recently integrated an employee recognition program in conjunction with WorkSafe in which select employees who have exhibited safe behavior, good work ethic and perfect attendance for a full month are eligible to receive a WorkSafe lunch bag.
“The team at our Union Springs complex has adopted the safety program with open arms and that attitude has been the source of our successful safety record,” said Jack Sherwood, South Alabama Area Manager. “We are extremely proud of our employees at Union Springs for this accomplishment.”
The Union Springs facility consists of an 85,000 square-foot fresh processing facility, 23,476 square-foot feed mill and a 33,949 square-foot hatchery. The facility has been owned and operated by Wayne Farms since 1961.
